Brandt Twirls 5-0 Shutout for Sand Gnats

Josh Brandt of the Savannah Sand Gnats really did a job on the Legends at Grayson Stadium, shutting them out, 5-0. Brandt frustrated Lexington hitters throughout the game, surrendering 3 hits. He struck out 11 and walked 2 in picking up the victory.

Álvarez Hurls 1-0 Shutout

Alfredo Álvarez humbled the Savannah Sand Gnats at State Mutual Stadium in a shutout win. In the 1-0 victory, the Rome Firebirds starter yielded 5 hits, fanned 9, and walked 4.
"Hard not to go home happy after a game like that," Álvarez said.

Lakewood Blanks West Virginia, Blackburn Winner

The West Virginia Power met their match today in Lakewood hurler Dave Blackburn. He kept them guessing the whole game and spun a 4-hit shutout.
"He just worked us over," West Virginia skipper German Melendez said. "He probably didn't even need a shower after the game -- he barely worked up a sweat."
In the 5-0 victory, Blackburn whiffed 8 and gave up 6 walks.
