Spears Sizzles -- Smokes Tourists for 5 Hits Wednesday, May 28th , 2025 Walt Spears put on a hitting clinic at McCormick Field, spraying hits all over the ballpark and lashing Asheville pitchers for 5 hits in 6 at-bats. However, the offensive onslaught wasn't enough for the Greenville Drive, who still fell, 9-8. "Sometimes I try to pull the ball too much, so today I just went with the pitch," Spears told reporters after the game. "It's great to get 5 hits, but it would have been nicer to win the ballgame. too." Walt Spears struck out in the 1st, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 6th, singled in the 9th and singled in the 11th.
