Tourists Rally to Win
|
The Greenville Drive got a sterling performance from right fielder Walt Spears, but the Asheville Tourists still prevailed, 9-8. Spears was 5 for 6 with a double and 4 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Chris Godwin was the winner in relief. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Kevin MacMonies. Asheville is now 22-24, while Greenville is 10-36.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 11th inning, when Asheville second baseman Bobby Grier, facing Kevin MacMonies, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Tourists the 9-8 win.
"Winning is all that really matters and we got it done today," Grier told the Asheville Gazette.
