Ben Wells of the Gwinnett Firebirds was in command and couldn't do much wrong when he was on the mound this season. His outstanding 11-6 won-lost mark and 2.51 ERA were big factors in his winning the 2021 International League Outstanding Pitcher Award.

In 172.1 innings of work and 26 starts, Wells struck out 131 while giving up 134 hits and 52 walks. He held opposing batters to a .216 average.

He received 8 first place votes out of a possible 14. Max Povse of the Indianapolis Arrows finished second in voting with 2 first place votes, while Sandy Baez of the Syracuse Chiefs finished third with 1 first place vote.
