Clippers Get Hard-Earned Win, Stop Firebirds, 7-6
|
The Columbus Clippers picked up a win at Huntington Park, dropping the Gwinnett Firebirds, 7-6. Tim Garnham, who is tied for 3rd in the IL in innings pitched with 54.0, was the difference-maker. Columbus reliever Juan Álvarez picked up the win, while Enmanuel Berihuete took the loss for Gwinnett. Columbus now has a record of 18-16 with the win.
The decisive blow was delivered by Anthony Garcia in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a run-scoring double off 24-year old right-handed pitcher Gilberto Valéncia to win the game for Columbus. The home crowd went nuts.
"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Garnham said.
