Though he had a stellar game, José Martínez could not prevent his team, the Norfolk Tides, from losing, 7-3, to the Columbus Clippers. Martínez was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. It could have been a different outcome for Columbus, had it not been for Cisco Vargas, the 26-year old first baseman . Vargas contributed a 2-run single in the top of the fifth inning to put Columbus up, 6-2.

"I just tried to make good contact," said Vargas.
