In a tight tilt between the Pawtucket Red Sox and the Syracuse Chiefs, Mario Rodríguez was the deciding factor. The Pawtucket right-hander spearheaded the 2-1 win. The win went to Sam Bell in relief. His record improves to 4-5. Joe Frey took the loss. The Red Sox improved their record to 76-58 with the win over Syracuse.

Had Luis Gallardo not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Gallardo hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Red Sox.

"The key for me has just been attacking the zone and hitting my spots. When I'm throwing strikes and not falling behind in counts, those are the days when I pitch really good," said Rodríguez.
