Late Rally by Tides Secures 5-3 Win
|
The Syracuse Chiefs could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Chris Brown into a win. Instead, the Norfolk Tides prevailed, 5-3. Brown threw 7.0 innings allowing 3 runs. The winning pitcher was José Calderón. He's now 7-9. He went 7.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits for the Tides. Randy Delgado recorded the save, making him 4 for 5.
It could have been a different outcome for Norfolk, had it not been for Wilbert Austin, the 23-year old second baseman . Austin contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the first inning to put Norfolk up, 1-0.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Norfolk manager Charlie Poe.
With this game in the books, Norfolk is 58-49, Syracuse 47-60.
