The Columbus Clippers downed the Pawtucket Red Sox, 3-1, at Huntington Park. Stellar pitching by Cristóbal Méndez had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is tied for 5th in the IL in quality starts with 16, handcuffed his opponent all game. Méndez got the win, improving to 11-7. He gave up 5 hits and walked 1 over 8 innings. He allowed 1 run. Picking up the save was Juan Álvarez. He's now 15 for 17 in save chances.

With scoring opportunities rare, the Clippers had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fifth, when shortstop Hermengildo Forte hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Juan Aguilar and made the score 3-1, Clippers.
