Bisons Take Tight Tangle
|
Gwinnett got a valiant performance from pitcher Doug Carey, but it wasn't enough to beat the Buffalo Bisons. Buffalo won the game, 1-0. Carey threw 8.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. The winning pitcher was Mitch Brown. His record now stands at 10-7. The right-hander went 8 innings, allowing no runs on 8 hits for the Bisons. Jerry Ward sewed up the save, his 7th.
Buffalo needed the clutch hitting of Jorge Rodríguez to seal the deal. The right fielder swatted a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Bisons on top, 1-0. For the game, Rodríguez had 1 home run and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.
"Some games build character," said Buffalo manager Drew Saylor. "Like this one."
The Bisons improved to 57-47.
