Syracuse Beats Lehigh Valley, 3-1
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Syracuse Chiefs and the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, Clarence Jackson, who is tied for 5th in the IL in strikeouts with 126, was the difference-maker. The Syracuse right-hander spearheaded the 3-1 win. The winning pitcher was Jackson, now 9-7. He tossed 7.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 8. The 4th-place Chiefs go to 39-54.
Syracuse third baseman Jesús Saldaña helped the Chiefs go up, 3-1, in the bottom of the sixth inning. With the game tied, Saldaña hit a 2-run single off Lehigh Valley pitcher Brad Lewandoski.
"Clarence's not intimidated by who's stepping into the batter's box," said Syracuse manager Dave Anderson.
