Jim Jones pitched a gem to lead Pawtucket to victory over the Syracuse Chiefs, 8-0. The winning pitcher was Jones, now 4-2. He tossed 7.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 5. With the victory, the Red Sox upped their record to 43-34.

In the top of the first, 26-year old right fielder Mal Bickerton hit a run-scoring double. The 14th double of the season for the Pawtucket right fielder put the Red Sox on top, 1-0.

"We didn't help ourselves, it's as simple as that," said losing manager Dave Anderson.
