Syracuse got a valiant performance from pitcher Chris Brown, but it wasn't enough to beat the Pawtucket Red Sox. Pawtucket won the game, 3-1. Brown threw 8.0 innings of 2-hit ball for the losing team. The win puts Pawtucket at 1-1.

Pawtucket used a clutch at-bat from Lou Smith to capture the win. The second baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 2-1. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

Pawtucket manager Wes Timmons said his team played a "no nonsense" game.
