Knights Spill Mud Hens, 5-1
|
Héctor Menjivar, who is tied for 6th in the IL in quality starts with 10, imposed his will on the Mud Hens from the get-go. Relying mainly on his curveball, the right-hander spearheaded the 5-1 Charlotte triumph. The winning pitcher was Menjivar, now 7-3. He tossed 7.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 5 and fanning 5. The Knights now have a record of 31-37 with the win over Toledo.
Charlotte used the hitting of Tony Smith to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Knights on top, 3-0. For the game, Smith had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
"I think every team will tell you that the pitching sets the tone, especially the starters," said Charlotte skipper Jose Gualdron.
