The Charlotte Knights beat the Gwinnett Firebirds, 8-2, at Coolray Field. The Knights got a fine performance from designated hitter Raúl Ruíz, who was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The Knights go to 15-25 with the win.

With Charlotte leading 1-0 in the top of the third, Ruíz hit a cutter from Ed Ford for a 2-run home run. It was his 4th home run of the season and put the Knights ahead, 3-0.
