Doubledays Come Back Late, Nip Muckdogs
|
Crowds lined up early in front of Dwyer Stadium, eagerly awaiting the start of the 2023 New York-Penn League season. On the mound was Sergio Román for the visiting Auburn Doubledays and Joe Glass for the hometown Batavia Muckdogs. In a spirited contest, the Doubledays pulled out the win, defeating the Muckdogs by the score of 4-3. Especially impressive was Joe Glass.
Auburn used a timely hit from Juan Martínez to get the win. The third baseman stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Doubledays ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Auburn manager Takanobu Sato.
