Saunders Blanks Greenville, 5-0
Saturday, July 18th , 2026
Greg Saunders of the Charleston RiverDogs was on top of his game.
The 22-year-old tantalized the Greenville Drive with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest, shutting them out, 5-0.
"He had the changeup working," Greenville manager Jason Wood said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Charleston hurler had 5 strikeouts, gave up 5 walks and surrendered 5 hits in his complete-game effort.
Saunders told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
Saunders has taken the mound for no relief appearances this season, nailing down no saves while notching a 9-9 record with a 4.83 ERA. The Charleston reliever has limited opposing batters to a .241 batting average.
