Sand Gnats Win Round 1 Wednesday, September 13th , 2023 Savannah Sand Gnats won a nail-biting series against the Greenville Drive 3-2, wrapping up the Round 1 finale 6-1 at Grayson Stadium. Sand Gnats first baseman Walt Boyce was named the series MVP. He batted .300, drove in 8 runs and scored 3 to lead Savannah into the next round of play. "Walt was real solid for us, real solid," said Sand Gnats manager Steve Kiefer. "I normally say I'd like to have nine of him out there, but thankfully we got by with just one this time." The Savannah Sand Gnats will play against the Lakewood BlueClaws in the next round. Lakewood won their series against the Hagerstown Suns 3 games to 1.
