5-Hit Game for Matos
Sunday, August 17th , 2025
The West Michigan Whitecaps stopped the South Bend Cubs by a score of 10-2 at Fifth Third Ballpark, with the lion's share of the credit going to first baseman Oliver Matos. The 24-year-old had a career day, collecting 5 hits.
"Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate," Matos said later. "He wants to hit the ball hard."
Matos did just that in his 5 at-bats, much to the chagrin of the Cubs.
"Not much that I can say," offered South Bend manager Mike Brumley. "He just hammered the heck out of us."
Oliver Matos doubled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and singled in the 7th.
So far this season, Matos has put up a .360 batting average with 112 hits, 8 home runs and 42 RBIs.
