MID Announces Best Player Award Thursday, October 5th , 2023
The manager of the Fort Wayne TinCaps said he thinks Darrel Nijland is only going to get better as he gets older.
He may only be 22, but it will be hard to top the center fielder's 2023 campaign, as he has been named the winner of the Midwest League Most Valuable Player Award.
His winning campaign featured a .286 batting average and a .394 on-base percentage this year. In 129 games he piled up 116 hits, 26 doubles, 4 triples, 14 home runs, 53 RBIs and 62 runs scored.
He received 12 first place votes out of a possible 16. Chris Allen of the South Bend Cubs finished second in voting with 1 first place vote, while Tony López of the Beloit Snappers finished third with 3 first place votes.
