Ortega Gives Charlotte Goose Eggs Thursday, July 31st , 2025 The Charlotte Stone Crabs manager was philosophical in the clubhouse following a shutout loss to the Lakeland Flying Tigers. The Stone Crabs were overpowered by Lakeland starter Juan Ortega, who hurled his club to victory, 2-0. "It was just one of those games -- shake it off and do better next time," Brad Salmon said. Over 9 innings, Ortega blanked Charlotte on 4 hits with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. "I kept them off balance. I could tell a lot of them were late on fastballs because they were fouling them off. Once you see that, it sets them up for other pitches," Ortega said. "I set them up, where if they chased one breaking ball, they were going to chase another one." Ortega has posted a 5-3 record for the year with a 2.90 ERA. Teams are hitting .276 against him and he has rung up 85 strikeouts in 83.2 innings. View Boxscore |
