The Potomac Nationals stopped the Winston-Salem Dash by a score of 5-4 at New Winston-Salem Ballpark, with the lion's share of the credit going to shortstop Ken Barnes. The 23-year-old had a career day, collecting 5 hits.
"Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate," Barnes said later. "He wants to hit the ball hard."
Barnes did just that in his 6 at-bats, much to the chagrin of the Dash.
"Not much that I can say," offered Winston-Salem manager Brent Metheny. "He just hammered the heck out of us."
Ken Barnes grounded out in the 1st, hit an RBI triple in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 8th, doubled in the 10th and hit a solo-shot off Bud Walker in the 12th.
This season, Barnes has hit at a .291 clip with 59 RBIs, 16 home runs and 74 runs scored. He has played in 125 games.
