Álvarez Helps West Michigan Bombard Fort Wayne
Thanks in large part to catcher Juan Álvarez, the West Michigan Whitecaps beat the Fort Wayne TinCaps, 23-4. Álvarez went 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 5. Joe Howard locked down his 1st save. The victory gives West Michigan a record of 80-36.

With West Michigan leading 9-4 in the bottom of the sixth, Álvarez came up to bat against Fort Wayne pitcher Joe Mayes. Álvarez hit a fastball to right for a grand slam home run. His 9th home run of the season put the Whitecaps on top, 13-4.

"Every win gets us closer to our ultimate goal," said Álvarez.
