Cubs Pull Off Thrilling 7-5 Win in Extras
Chris Allen was a major factor in the 7-5 South Bend win over Lake County. The Cubs right fielder was 4-6 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The winner was South Bend reliever Artie Maddox, now 5-6. The loser was Juan Rodríguez. After today's action, South Bend sits at 59-51; Lake County slips to 57-53.

Allen had a game-changing home run in the top of the 11th. On a 0-1 curveball from Juan Rodríguez, he banged a 2-run home run to left-center, giving the Cubs a 7-5 lead. It was the 8th home run of the year for Allen.

"Whenever I help the team," said Allen, "it sort of justifies my place on the roster."
