The South Bend Cubs cut down the Clinton LumberKings by the score of 4-3, with the largest share of the credit going to shortstop José Bernal. Bernal went 1 for 3 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 3 for the Cubs. Mike Tillman earned the save, his 8th. The Cubs improved their record to 40-59 by beating Clinton.

Bernal had a timely hit for South Bend in the bottom of the sixth. With South Bend trailing 3-1, he turned a first pitch changeup into a 3-run home run. It was his 4th home run of the season, making it 4-3, South Bend.
