Altoona wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Jud Clayton, falling to the New Britain Rock Cats, 2-1. Clayton threw 8.1 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. Tadashi Samurakami picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Stan Martínez suffered the loss. Jon Vinson finished the game for New Britain and earned his 4th save.
Mario Díaz, who leads the EL in bases on balls with 13, had a direct impact on the outcome. Díaz contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth inning to put New Britain up, 1-0.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Díaz said.
The win gives New Britain a record of 10-7.
