Whitecaps Win, 6-3, Versus South Bend
|
The West Michigan Whitecaps faced a tough opponent in South Bend pitcher Glenn Hughes, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium by a final score of 6-3. Hughes went 6.2 innings and allowed 1 run. Joe Emerson earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 3 innings. His record is now 4-0. With the win, the Whitecaps hiked their record to 67-21.
West Michigan used the timely hitting of Joe Jacobs to capture the win. The right fielder stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Whitecaps on top, 6-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but he made it count.
When asked about his performance after the game, Jacobs said: "Like everyone else, I'm just doing my job."
