The Quad Cities River Bandits spoiled a good performance by Beloit right fielder Erik Wills, bumping off Beloit, 6-5, at Harry C. Pohlman Field. Wills went 2-5 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Jorge Martínez, who is tied for 6th in the MID with a 9.8 K/9 rate, was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 10 hits, with no walks and 3 strikeouts. Bob Barraclough nailed down his 14th save.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Ezequiel Cerqueora? The Quad Cities center fielder had a 2-run double in the top of the third inning to put the River Bandits on top, 2-0. For the game, Cerqueora had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"We'll take some time to unwind," said Cerqueora, "and then get after it again."
