The South Bend Cubs got a stellar performance from pitcher José Maréz, who handcuffed the Lake County offense en route to a win, 4-1, at Classic Park. South Bend raised its record to 37-31 with the win.

South Bend used a well-timed hit by Elton Thomas to capture the win. The second baseman socked a run-scoring double in the top of the second inning to put the Cubs ahead, 1-0. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.

Maréz called the win "a collective effort."
