Ríos Helps Cubs Beat Whitecaps, 11-6
Manolo Ríos was a vital contributor to the 11-6 South Bend victory over West Michigan. The Cubs center fielder went 4 for 4 with a double, 3 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. José Maréz earned the win for South Bend. He lasted 5.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 4 hits, while striking out 8. With the win, he raised his record to 7-2. The Cubs have now won 4 straight.

South Bend first baseman Doug McGillivantic contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With two down, he hit a curveball to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 60th hit of the season and put the Cubs ahead, 8-6.

"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said McGillivantic.
