Hot Rods Win, 4-2, Versus South Bend
|
South Bend got a valiant performance from pitcher Artie Maddox, but it wasn't enough to beat the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Bowling Green won the game, 4-2. Maddox threw 7.1 innings allowing 1 run for the losing team. Picking up the win was Ed Alexander. He went 7.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 8 hits. The left--hander struck out 7 and walked 2. Picking up the save was 22-year old left-handed pitcher Felipe Melle.
Bowling Green needed the clutch hitting of Tommy Miller to seal the deal. The left fielder swatted a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Hot Rods on top, 4-2. For the game, Miller had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
In postgame comments to the Bowling Green Daily News, Miller said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
The Hot Rods improved their record to 28-27 with the win over South Bend.
