The South Bend Cubs spoiled a good performance by Fort Wayne center fielder Randy Clark, bumping off Fort Wayne, 9-5, at Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium. Clark went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Daryl Young, the winner, is now 5-2. He struck out 5 and walked 1 over 6.2 innings, while allowing 3 runs on 8 hits. After today's action, South Bend sits at 26-24; Fort Wayne slips to 23-27.

Kurt Pike went 2 for 4 with 2 singles and a walk, while scoring 2 times for South Bend. The 25-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth.
