The South Bend Cubs knocked off the Lansing Lugnuts, 6-3, in Midwest League action at Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium. South Bend pitcher and San Francisco de Macorís, Dominican Republic, native José Maréz had an outstanding performance. The winner was Maréz. He threw 5.2 innings allowing 3 runs. The loser was Cipriano Barrientez. The loss makes Lansing 19-25.

South Bend catcher Ron McIntosh contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to right field for a 2-run single. It was his 47th hit of the season and put the Cubs ahead, 5-3.

"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said McIntosh.
