The Whitecaps grabbed a win, 5-4, at Fifth Third Ballpark, overcoming a fine effort from South Bend pitcher Artie Maddox. Maddox went 6.2 innings and allowed no runs. West Michigan reliever Steve Hood picked up the win to move to 3-2. Sergio Acosta suffered the loss. West Michigan is now 30-13, while South Bend is 21-22.

Dan Babb was the walk-off hero for West Michigan. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Whitecaps third baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

West Michigan manager James Russell called it "a pretty good win."
