Cubs Nose Past West Michigan, 5-4
South Bend beat West Michigan at Fifth Third Ballpark, eking out a 5-4 win in 11 innings. The win was due in large part to second baseman Zach Kennedy. He was 3 for 5 with 3 singles and a walk. The victory gives the Cubs a record of 21-21.

It could have been a different outcome for South Bend, had it not been for Ron McIntosh, the 22-year old catcher . McIntosh contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put South Bend up, 5-4.

"When you think about it," McIntosh said, "there's often a fine line between triumph and tragedy. One pitch, one swing of the bat can make all the difference."
