South Bend center fielder Manolo Ríos made his presence felt in the 7-5 Cubs triumph over the Lansing Lugnuts. Ríos was 4 for 4 with a double, 3 singles, and 2 walks. José Maréz picked up the win, improving his season record to 5-1. He struck out 2 in 5.2 innings. Randy Nelson recorded the save for South Bend, his 8th of the season.

South Bend third baseman Hugh Porter helped the Cubs go up, 5-4, in the top of the sixth inning. With the game tied, Porter hit a run-scoring single off Lansing pitcher Kevin Carlton.

"Getting the win feels nice," said Porter. "More importantly, I had a good game."

South Bend goes to 19-20, Lansing to 18-21.
