Down Goes Bowling Green, 6-3
|
The South Bend Cubs beat the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 6-3, at Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium. The win was due in part to first baseman Ron McIntosh, who was 3-3 with 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI. Edwin Braun picked up the win in relief. Rob Byrd took the loss for Bowling Green. Earning his 3rd save of the year was Glenn Hughes.
The Cubs got a big at-bat from center fielder Phil Lind. For the game, Lind was 1 for 3 with a double and a walk. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 10th double of the season gave South Bend a 3-2 lead.
"We'll grab a cold beverage tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Lind said.
With the win, the Cubs hiked their record to 20-19.
