Loons Resilient in 3-1 Win Over Bowling Green
|
Fans who congregated at Dow Diamond were treated to extra-inning drama.
The Great Lakes Loons picked up a win at Dow Diamond, dropping the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 3-1. Josh Peterson, who is tied for 4th in the MID in innings pitched with 60.1, was the difference-maker. The winner in relief was Jarrod Lane. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 1 hit in 3 innings. He now owns a record of 3-3.
The decisive blow was delivered by Lou Walker in the bottom of the 11th when he hit a 2-run home run off 22-year old left-handed pitcher Felipe Melle to win the game for Great Lakes. The home crowd went nuts.
"They tested our mettle," said Walker. "But that's good. It toughens us up."
The Loons, now 19-20, know that wins in May count the same as wins in September.
