A good performance from shortstop Mickael Gentil helped the Cedar Rapids Kernels defeat the South Bend Cubs, 14-6. Gentil went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for the Kernels. Cedar Rapids reliever Brendan Cummings picked up the win, upping his record to 3-0. Ed Green absorbed the loss. With the win, Cedar Rapids has a record of 23-13. South Bend falls to 18-18.

With Cedar Rapids leading 8-1 in the bottom of the fourth, Gentil came up to bat against South Bend pitcher Ben Ramsey. Gentil hit a curveball to left-center for a 3-run home run. His 1st home run of the season put the Kernels on top, 11-1.

"Nice to tuck this win away," said Gentil.
