The Cedar Rapids Kernels withstood an impressive performance by Fort Wayne shortstop Daniel Vega to defeat the TinCaps, 6-5, at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Vega went 2 for 5 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Brendan Cummings earned the win in relief. The left-hander allowed no runs on 4 hits in 3.1 innings. He upped his record to 2-0. Picking up his 8th save was 26-year old left-handed pitcher Josh Peterson.

The Kernels got a big at-bat from third baseman Ben Jamison. For the game, Jamison was 1-1 with a double, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the first, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run double. His 7th double of the season gave Cedar Rapids a 2-0 lead.

"I like the roll we're on," said Cedar Rapids manager Bobby Chouinard.

After today's action, Cedar Rapids sits at 21-12, while Fort Wayne falls to 6-27.
