At Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium, the South Bend Cubs and Lake County Captains were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.

The South Bend Cubs could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Artie Maddox into a win. Instead, the Lake County Captains prevailed, 8-5. Maddox threw 7.0 innings allowing 2 runs. Lake County pitcher José Vázquez earned the win, hiking his record to 1-0. Bob Johnstone suffered the loss.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Matilde Fiuza? The Lake County left fielder had a bases-clearing double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Captains on top, 8-4. For the game, Fiuza had 2 doubles and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Lake County manager David Peralta.

The Cubs fall to 10-13 and continue their sputtering start to the 2025 season.
