With right fielder Luis Carranza leading the charge, the Clinton LumberKings defeated the Kane County Cougars, 9-6, at Philip B. Elfstrom Stadium. Carranza, who is tied for 7th in the MID in stolen bases with 4, was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Clinton reliever Alex Shaw picked up the win to move to 1-0. Jarred Thirkell suffered the loss. The Cougars drop to 8-14, as their stumbling start to the 2025 season continues.

In the top of the eighth, the LumberKings grabbed the lead when Carranza hit his 6th home run of the season. The grand slam home run off Jarred Thirkell made it 7-5, Clinton.

"I'm just looking to see the ball, hit the ball," said Carranza.
