The Lansing Lugnuts dumped the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 6-4, in large part due to shortstop Augusto Mercado. On the day, Mercado was 3 for 5 with 3 singles, while scoring 2 for the Lugnuts. Steve Collins picked up the win with 6.1 innings of work. He allowed 4 runs on 12 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 4. On the season, he is now 2-0. Bowling Green drops to 9-8.

Lansing third baseman Steve Collins contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, he hit a changeup to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 15th hit of the season and put the Lugnuts ahead, 5-3.

"It was a solid, all-around game for us," said Lansing manager Edgar Varela.
