The skies opened up and the rain fell at Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium.

The South Bend Cubs defeated the Lansing Lugnuts, 5-3. Doing his part was center fielder Phil Lind, who was 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Rodrigo Vargas claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 4 innings. His record stands at 1-0. Artie Maddox finished to wrap up his 4th save.

With South Bend leading 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Lind hit a fastball from Dave Thompson for a 2-run home run. It was his 2nd home run of the season and put the Cubs ahead, 5-1.

"I keep on showing up every day and trying to put up good at-bats and find good pitches to hit," said Lind.

Lansing falls to 9-8.
