The Cedar Rapids Kernels defeated the Peoria Chiefs, 8-6. Left Fielder Eddie Woods deserved a large share of the credit. Woods was 2 for 5 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Kernels. The win belonged to Johnny Rollins in relief. His record improves to 1-0. António Morales took the loss for Peoria. Josh Peterson earned the save for Cedar Rapids, his 4th.

The game was all tied up in the top of the ninth, until Woods delivered big-time for Cedar Rapids, stroking a dramatic 2-run home run off António Morales. The game-changing hit put the Kernels on top, 8-6.

"We came out aggressive," said Kernels manager Bobby Chouinard. "We came out swinging the bats."
