Extra innings were needed to determine a winner at Alliant Energy Field.

It took 10 innings, but the Peoria Chiefs were able to beat the Clinton LumberKings, 7-5, at Alliant Energy Field. Bob Wolfe provided some offensive muscle for Peoria. He was 3-3 with a double, 2 singles, and 3 walks, while scoring 2 runs. Danny Álvarez, now 1-0, was credited with the win in 0.2 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 0 and walking 0.

Tim Whaley was 2 for 5 with 2 singles and a walk for Peoria. With two out and the game tied in the top of the tenth inning, Whaley, who leads the MID in runs scored with 15, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Clinton hurler Julián Alou, he drew a walk, driving in 1 run to give the Chiefs a 6-5 lead.

"I was just going up there trying to see good pitches, that was about it," said Wolfe.

The Chiefs, now 10-4, have been on fire in the early going.
