The home crowd had a good time watching the South Bend Cubs and West Michigan Whitecaps get after it.

West Michigan Whitecaps starter António Quiñones hurled his team past the South Bend Cubs, 5-0. In 6 innings, Quiñones surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 2. He allowed no runs.

Balduíno Vecchi dealt the Cubs a blow in the bottom of the fourth. Batting with the bases loaded and West Michigan leading 2-0, Vecchi hit a 1-1 fastball for a 2-run single.

"At the end of the day, it's about putting up zeros," said Quiñones.

The victory makes West Michigan 7-4, as the team seeks a return to the playoffs in 2026.
