South Bend Slaps 3-2 Loss on Great Lakes
|
In a low-scoring affair between the South Bend Cubs and the Great Lakes Loons, pitcher Edwin Braun was the difference between victory and defeat. The South Bend right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 3-2 Cubs win. Braun got the win, improving to 1-0. He gave up 7 hits and walked 5 over 6.2 innings. He allowed 2 runs. The save went to Randy Nelson, number 4 for him.
South Bend right fielder Chris Allen contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 15th hit of the season and put the Cubs ahead, 2-1.
"We're in a little funk right now and we've just got to get ourselves out of it," said Great Lakes manager Emilio Bonifacio.
The loss drops the Loons to 4-6.
