Captains Get 6-1 Win Versus Bowling Green
|
Not everyone stuck through the 51-minute rain delay, but those who did went home happy.
The Lake County Captains beat the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 6-1. Lake County pitcher and Santa Rosa, California, native Ron Lyons led the way. Lyons, now 1-0, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 11, walking 2, and allowing 1 run.
Curt Sorensen had a big run-scoring double for the Captains in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Lake County leading 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he got a slider from 22-year old right-handed pitcher Víctor Valdés and swatted a double to left. It was his 2nd double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Captains ahead, 3-1.
"I was able to change speeds effectively tonight," said Lyons.
With the win, Lake County improves its record to 6-3.
