The Lansing Lugnuts went down to defeat to Jody Simmons and his West Michigan teammates. The final score was 5-2, in favor of the Whitecaps. The winner was Simmons. He threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball. The loser was Darren Nelson. West Michigan is off to a hot start at 4-0.

West Michigan took a 4-0 lead on Juan Mercado's 1st home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which Mercado hit in the top of the seventh, left Lansing pitcher Kade Franklin visibly frustrated.

"Jody set the tone with his ability to attack the hitters," said West Michigan manager Bo Porter.
