The South Bend Cubs opened their 2025 season with a disappointing 5-3 loss to the Fort Wayne TinCaps at Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium. First Baseman Jake Holmes was a big part of the win for Fort Wayne. He was 1-1 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Tim Roberts earned the save for Fort Wayne, his 1st of the year.

Fort Wayne used the timely hitting of Luis Arteaga to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the TinCaps on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

Arteaga attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
